In recent years, work environments have undergone significant transformations due to rapid technological developments and changes in the nature of jobs, leading to the emergence of new managerial approaches, particularly hybrid work environments that combine traditional workplace settings with remote work arrangements. This study aims to analyze the concept of hybrid work environments and examine their role in enhancing employee engagement and improving organizational productivity through an analytical review of relevant international and Arab literature.
The study adopts an analytical literature review approach by examining recent research trends related to hybrid work, employee engagement, and organizational productivity, with the aim of identifying the nature of relationships among these variables and highlighting the key factors influencing the successful implementation of hybrid work models.
The review findings indicate that hybrid work represents a comprehensive managerial transformation rather than merely a change in the location of work. Its success depends on several factors, including digital technology, organizational flexibility, digital leadership, and a culture based on trust. The literature also demonstrates that employee engagement plays a critical role in transforming the benefits of hybrid work into tangible organizational outcomes, such as improved performance, efficiency, and productivity.
Furthermore, the study highlights several challenges associated with hybrid work environments, particularly in developing and Arab organizational contexts, including infrastructure readiness, maintaining organizational culture, and balancing flexibility with control. Based on the reviewed literature, the study proposes a conceptual framework illustrating the relationship between hybrid work environments, employee engagement, and organizational productivity, while emphasizing the need for further empirical studies in Arab and Libyan contexts.
