Abstract

This study examines the concept of national security as a strategic framework aimed at safeguarding the state and its national interests against various internal and external threats through the integration of political, economic, social, and military dimensions. It reviews the historical evolution of the concept of national security from its origins to its expansion in contemporary political thought, highlighting its principal characteristics, dimensions, and levels. The study also presents the major theoretical approaches that have interpreted national security within the field of international relations. Furthermore, it discusses the problem of reducing national security to merely its security or military dimension and the resulting shortcomings in addressing national challenges. The study concludes that achieving national security requires a comprehensive vision based on sustainable development, political stability, institutional effectiveness, and the protection of national interests in accordance with regional and international developments.
