Psychological pressures among mothers of children with ADHD and their impact on family dynamics

This study addresses the psychological stress experienced by mothers of children diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and its repercussions on family dynamics. Using a descriptive-analytical approach grounded in a review of relevant theoretical and empirical literature, the study develops an integrated account of the sources of maternal stress and the mechanisms through which this stress extends to the marital relationship and to other family members. Evidence drawn from prior research indicates that parenting stress among mothers of children with ADHD significantly exceeds that reported among mothers of typically developing children, and that this stress is mediated by factors such as social support, symptom severity, and awareness of the disorder. The study further shows that the absence of early intervention exacerbates family fragility and threatens its stability, and concludes with practical recommendations directed at families and at institutions concerned with mental health and social work.
