The Phenomenon of Psychological Pollution (A Theoretical and Analytical Study)

Abstract

This study provides a theoretical and analytical account of psychological pollution, including its concept, characteristics, causes, manifestations, dimensions, and psychological and social consequences. It also interprets the phenomenon through psychoanalytic theory and Erich Fromm’s perspective. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical method based on reviewing, comparing, and synthesizing relevant literature and previous studies. The analysis indicates that psychological pollution is a multidimensional construct shaped by the interaction of family, digital, economic, and conflict-related factors. It may appear through identity disturbance, excessive concern with external appearances, random behavior, and poor self-reconciliation. It is also associated with lower emotional stability, social adjustment, and self-concept. Prevention therefore requires coordinated roles for families, educational institutions, media, and counseling services. The study recommends developing culturally appropriate measures and implementing preventive and counseling programs that strengthen critical awareness, balanced identity, and psychosocial support.
