Abstract

This study examines desertification on Farwa Island Reserve in northwestern Libya, which is facing serious environmental pressures. Farwa Island is a unique marine and coastal ecosystem in the Mediterranean and is under threat from increasing desertification. The study aims to identify the environmental and human causes of land degradation, with a main focus on creating a scientific plan for planting and restoring native plant species such as Tamarix, Stipagrostis, and Atriplex in order to restore the natural ecological balance. Based on field surveys carried out in May 2026, the study analyzes soil conditions and determines the plant species most able to survive in the area. The study concludes that involving the local community in planting and restoration efforts is important for the long-term protection of the reserve.
