Abstract

This study aims to recognize the gap between theory and practice in teaching the "Engineering Perspective" course to students of the Department of Interior Architecture at the Faculty of Arts and Architecture, University of Derna (specifically the second and third level). The research examines how this separation affects the efficiency of design projects within the core curriculum.

The study utilizes a descriptive-analytical approach to diagnose the current educational reality, alongside an experimental approach by comparing the performance of two groups: a "control group" taught via traditional curricula, and an "experimental group" that adopted strategies of "Functional Integration" and "Analytical Perspective."

The research tools included a questionnaire distributed to a sample of students and academics, in addition to applied tests designed to measure spatial perception levels. The results reveal a significant gap resulting from treating perspective solely as fixed mathematical rules, leading to a deficiency in perceiving the human scale and an over-reliance on digital engineering applications, which can cause visual distortions.

The study recommends integrating the teaching of perspective directly into the "Interior Design Studio" and emphasizing freehand drawing as a fundamental thinking tool that precedes computer modeling. Furthermore, it advocates for the activation of "Sectional Perspective" as a vital tool for regulating architectural proportions
