Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming architectural education by playing a central role in supporting conceptual design, evaluating alternatives, analyzing performance, and generating creative solutions within the architectural design studio. Advances in generative design systems, large language models, and AI-based image generation tools have significantly reshaped architectural design processes, posing new challenges for architecture education institutions to rethink curricula and teaching methodologies in line with digital transformation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (UNESCO, 2023; Holmes et al., 2022; Jang et al., 2025).

This study aims to develop a proposed educational framework for integrating Artificial Intelligence into architectural design courses to enhance students’ design competencies. It relies on a descriptive-analytical methodology based on a comprehensive review of contemporary literature published between 2021 and 2026, identifying current trends and best practices in AI-enhanced architectural education (Oxman, 2021; Stanimirovic et al., 2026).

The study analyzes the relationship between AI tools and the stages of the design process, leading to the development of an integrated educational framework that defines the roles of instructors, students, AI tools, teaching strategies, and assessment methods (Holmes et al., 2022; UNESCO, 2023).

Findings indicate that AI integration in architectural education should not be limited to technological adoption but must be embedded within a structured pedagogical framework that balances human creativity with computational capabilities. The framework emphasizes the gradual integration of AI across design stages, clear assessment criteria, and strong ethical considerations regarding responsible AI use (Jabi, 2023; UNESCO, 2023).

The study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on AI-enhanced architectural education by offering a structured framework that may assist architecture schools in aligning their curricula with contemporary digital and AI-driven transformations (Oxman, 2021; Jang et al., 2025).
