Urban Planning and Future Challenges

Abstract

This research aims to explore the concept and significance of urban planning, examine the impact of human activities—including those of the urban population—that contribute to pollution in urban centers, and analyze key current and future challenges facing urban planning. The study employs a descriptive analytical approach, drawing upon recent research concerning urban planning, smart cities, and urban sustainability. The importance of this study lies in highlighting the role of urban planning in addressing contemporary urban issues, analyzing the economic and social impacts of climate change on various cities, and proposing solutions to mitigate these effects. Urban planning is an integral part of the actual development process; effective planning and the formulation of well-considered strategies require the availability of human, material, and administrative resources. The study concludes that existing challenges at the local and urban levels inform urban development policies, which in turn address the needs and requirements of both current and future generations. Furthermore, climate-related challenges underscore the necessity of integrating urban planning with sustainable development—specifically by reducing the impact of climate change on infrastructure and managing the distribution of populations across cities.
