The study aimed to identify the role of teachers’ emotional intelligence in improving the classroom climate and reducing bullying behavior among students in the basic education stage from the teachers’ perspective. The study adopted the descriptive-analytical approach and used a questionnaire as the data collection instrument. The questionnaire consisted of 30 items distributed across three dimensions: emotional intelligence, classroom climate, and reducing bullying behavior. The study was conducted on a random sample of 240 male and female teachers of seventh, eighth, and ninth grades in the basic education stage.
The results showed that the level of emotional intelligence among teachers was high, with a mean score of 4.21. The level of classroom climate was also high, with a mean score of 4.25, while the role of emotional intelligence in reducing bullying behavior was found to be very high, with a mean score of 4.33. The results also indicated a strong positive correlation between emotional intelligence and improving the classroom climate (r = 0.81), as well as between emotional intelligence and reducing bullying behavior (r = 0.78). Furthermore, regression analysis revealed that emotional intelligence accounted for 66% of the variance in classroom climate and 61% of the variance in reducing bullying behavior.
The study found no statistically significant differences attributable to gender, whereas statistically significant differences were found based on years of teaching experience, in favor of more experienced teachers.
The study concluded that developing teachers’ emotional intelligence represents an important approach to improving the classroom environment and reducing bullying behavior. It recommended incorporating emotional intelligence skills into teacher preparation and professional training programs.
