Values of Tolerance and Acceptance of Others in Libyan Society: A Socio-Anthropological Study in the City of Zuwarah

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the level of tolerance and acceptance of others within the local community of Zuwara and to explore the nature of the social practices associated with these values. It also sought to analyze the cultural and social factors influencing their formation, considering tolerance as one of the fundamental pillars for achieving social cohesion and managing diversity within pluralistic societies.

The study adopted the descriptive-analytical approach, as it was deemed the most appropriate for the nature of the research. Data were collected using three main instruments: a questionnaire, interviews, and document analysis. These tools enabled a comprehensive examination of the various dimensions of tolerance and acceptance of others within the local context.

The findings focused on several key dimensions, including respect for diversity, social coexistence, interaction with others, and the rejection of exclusion. Furthermore, the study highlighted the impact of contemporary social and cultural transformations on reshaping these values and practices within the community.
